Klaussner to close last company-owned retail store

Author: Planned Furniture Promotions

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Klaussner Home Furnishings said it will close its last company-owned Klaussner Home Store here after losing its lease. Planned Furniture Promotions was hired to conduct the store closing sale at the 26,000-square-foot showroom in a shopping center on West Wendover Avenue near Interstate 40. The sale is expected to begin next week and run through Oct. 15, said Len Burke, Klaussner’s vice president of marketing. He would not disclose projected sales. “We chose to exit retail back in 2007 and that left us with one Home store we have operated since that time,” Burke said. “The store has been a great test store for product and has served us well,” Burke said, but he added that when the landlord exercised its option on the space, Klaussner decided not to relocate. One Klaussner Home Store licensed showroom continues to operate in Raleigh, N.C.

“After 63 years of furnishing the finest homes in our region, we’re reaching out to all of the customers we’ve worked with in our wonderful store, and through our in-home design work, with this liquidation sale,” said President and second-generation family member David Gardberg .

The store was founded by David Gardberg’s father, Abraham Gardberg in 1949, making it the oldest continuously operating furniture and design business in the Mobile area. In addition to carrying the best selection of hand-made rugs from around the world, Gardberg’s has been hand-cleaning clients’ rugs for more than 35 years.

“Any business closing is going to involve difficult decisions, including ours, but the PFP team is helping to make the process go as smoothly and effectively as possible,” adds Gardberg.

“Planned Furniture Promotions is proud that the Gardberg family chose PFP to assist them in this milestone event and share in the great history of David Gardberg and his family business in Mobile,” said Roy Hester, senior vice president, Planned Furniture Promotions.

Bob’s Discount Furniture and Planned Furniture Promotions Raises $447,000.00 for Children’s Charities

Every year Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation along with Planned Furniture Promotions, Inc. hosts a golfing event to raise money for local charities that help children in need.  Their 25th charity golf outing and dinner held on July 17 raised more than $447,000.

The funds raised during the event will benefit charities including the American Red Cross, Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Cancer Society’s Camp Rising Sun, Family & Children’s Aid, The Jimmy Fund and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

“This event is about the children in the communities we serve, and it’s a labor of love,” said Bob Kaufman, co-founder of Bob’s Discount Furniture. “We think it’s wonderful that for 25 straight years our employees, vendors and executive team have enthusiastically supported our commitment to these invaluable non-profit organizations that help so many children in need.”

The charity golf outing started 25 years ago by Planned Furniture Promotions, the leading sales promotion company in the home furnishing industry. Bob’s Discount Furniture became an event partner when Kaufman and Gene Rosenberg, who is also the founder of Planned Furniture Promotions, opened Bob’s in 1991.

“Over the years, I have been to many of the facilities that support Bob’s Kids. Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces and the joy that it brings them makes this all worthwhile,” said Rosenberg.

This year’s outing included a round golf at the Tunxis Plantation Country Club in Farmington, Conn., followed by an evening event at the Farmington Club featuring dinner with silent and live auctions. Kaufman and Rosenberg enjoyed the festivities alongside fellow employees, partners and community members.

“Camp Rising Sun allows kids with cancer a chance to get away from chemo and clinics for a week and just be a kid at camp. We also plan family events during the year and a Mini Camp Weekend,” said Shaun Heffernan, Camp Director at Camp Rising Sun, a program of the American Cancer Society. “Bob’s has been raising funds on our behalf for the last 25 years, and we couldn’t expand our programs without their support.”

Bob’s has been committed to supporting communities where its stores are located since the company’s inception through Bob’s Charitable Foundation and Bob’s Outreach program. Bob’s Charitable Foundation responds to more than 100 requests for charitable donations per week. Each year, the Foundation donates more than $1.5 million in furniture, gift certificates and monetary donations to projects that support children in need.

“We are so grateful to Bob’s Discount Furniture and their customers for their generosity. Through their support, Bob’s is helping to ensure that the children of our region receive the outstanding health care they deserve,” said Martha Schall, President of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation. “Our ability to pursue promising scientific discoveries, have state-of-the-art technology and facilities, and recruit and retain skilled healthcare professionals who are dedicated to caring for children, is only possible with the support of partners like Bob’s. For the past 15 years, Bob’s has chosen to make the health of children a priority in their charitable giving and we are deeply honored to be a beneficiary.”
